System Descriptions
The Virtual Patient Monitoring and Engagement System addresses the increasing need to more closely monitor at-risk residents or those quarantined.  The System enables an attending caregiver to virtually monitor and engage patients, address their needs and record patient activities and conditions.  The results are reduced false alarms, improved caregiver protection, and improved patient information transfer during shift hand-offs.

Features

Virtual Rounds - The System allows, as noted earlier, an attending CNA or remote technician to monitor and engage patients, address patient needs, and record patient actions and conditions. During pandemics, it limits staff exposure and decreases the use of masks/gloves and gowns - all while not making the patient feel isolated and neglected.
Picture
Isolated Patient Room Coverage - One or more cameras can be placed within the patients room to provide 100% on-demand coverage.  The cameras are smaller than an iPhone, have an embedded microphone and speaker, and night vision.  The cameras can also be access for performing telehealth exams.

Optional mobile wireless camera with built in power supply can be setup in less than 1 minute. There are no cord connections and camera setup.
Force Multiplier Maintains Healthcare Delivery Capacity - The System saves and leverages caregiving resources by enabling a technician or CNA to monitor and engage up to 16 patients.

Labor Savings - Labor cost for 24/7 monitoring 16 patients is less than $1/hour/patient.

Report Generation - All patient interactions and observed conditions are recorded within an SQL database. The System provides a set of standard reports including shift reports highlighting patients requiring attention. Plus, approved stakeholders can query the database to generate virtually any report to improve operations and understand trends. Below is a sample report.

Real Time Data Collection - Technicians can record any of time-stamped occurrences (which can be edited by an administrator).  Default occurrences are...
          Coughing spells               Sneezing
          Shortness of breath         Running Nose
          Soar Throat                     Head Ache
`         Agitated                          Confusion
`         Dizziness                        Sleeping

HIPAA Compliance and Security - The System runs over a WiFi 6 network.  It is secured with WPA-3, forward secrecy, blocked USB and Thunderbolt ports, and anti-malware.  For HIPAA compliance, patient video is only display and never recorded or saved.  As new features are added a HIPAA security and risk assessment is performed to identify further opportunities for improving the Virtual Patient Engagement System.
Options
The Virtual Patient Isolation and Engagement System can be expanded with the following options
Picture
Call Button Option - A bedside call button can be added to any patient room.  When the call button is pressed, a video and audio alert is sent to the CNA's display system plus a live camera view of the patient.  The CNA can engage immediately in a two way conversation and address the patient's need.

Picture
Fall Prevention System - It prevents at-risk patients from falling by predicting those attempting a bed-exit attempt.  The Fall Prevention System acquires a video stream from the cameras within the Virtual Patient Engagement System. The video is then processed to determine the bed location and the patients bed movements. If the latter indicates a possible bed exit attempt, a notification and image is sent to the caregiver.
Implementation
The Virtual Patient Monitoring and Engagement System is shipped pre-configured for rapid installation.  Installation of a 8 to 16 resident room monitoring system by an IT technician takes about 3 hours. The System consists of cameras (with embedded microphone, speaker and night vision), a wireless network and computer laptop station with a separate display. Systems can range from monitoring 4 to over 300 patients.  In most cases, nursing homes implement the System where one monitoring station manages 8 to 16 residents.
Packaging - The System is pre-configured and shipped within a Pelican Case containing
  • Axis cameras
  • Dell UHD display with 2560 x 1440 resolution, generates 1.77 times more details than full HD .
  • Dell laptop provides solid state memory and a Nvidia graphics processor for high speed display rates.
  • Netgear NightHawk AX12 WiFi 6 Router and Extenders with blocked USB and Thunderbolt ports and Norton 360 anti-malware.
Plug & Play Installation - As noted earlier, a pre-configured 4 to 32-camera system can be installed in less than 30 minutes per camera by an IT technician.  Networking is straight-forward with a Wi-Fi 6 router with automatic channel selection and the camera installation is point and shoot.  All cameras have predesignated IP addresses enabling automated system location of all cameras and a mounting accessory toolkit enables cameras installation in virtually any environment. Plus, telephone support is provided at no cost.  Alternatively, KnowFalls provides full installation and training service.
